Highview students are encouraged to participate in a variety of student activities and/or special classes which present interesting learning opportunities:
MAAP Stars - MAAP is a state run organization offering leadership activities for students attending ALC programs. Highview typicall participates in both regional and state conventions. Students compete with other ALC students from across the state and region in activities such as public speaking, interview skills, team parenting and team decision making, as well as the ever popular Quiz Bowl style competition of Life Smarts!
Work Experience - Students with a job are able to earn elective credit for their work hours and assigned curriculum. Students may also access assiatnce
with job applications as well as locating businesses who may be in the process of hiring.
Career and Technical classes - classes for Highview students in career areas - opportunities at Hennepin Technical College and on the Highview
campus - pre-Certified Nursing Assistant, Computer Arts, carpentry, etc.
Transition classes - required for all students – Personal/Family Financial Management, Personal Wellness, and Career and Educational Planning.
Mini courses - offered twice during the school year and also during the summer months. These classes run for 3 weeks, 2-4 hours a day. Field trips,
projects, and group activities create an active learning environment and allow students to focus on 1-3 subjects in a concentrated amount of time.
Outdoor Education - Summer School course is offered where students attend a 9 day trip to Lake of the Woods through Lake Trails Base Camp. All
